Wǒ chī sù in Wuhan

The question of July: What are you going to eat in China? It’s a valid question. I don’t eat meats, fish, fowl, eggs, or dairy anymore. Seafood’s suppose to be big in Wuhan. But it doesn’t mean I’ll starve. It’s ordering the dishes I want when I’m at a restaurant that will make it difficult. Of course, I’m not the only one that has this “problem.” That means the leg work is already done for me. Vegetarian China has a short list of phrases that you can use to tell the waitress/waiter your diet. There’s a couple more at HappyCow.

chī
I eat vegetables

chī zhāi
I am vegetarian

chī…
I don’t eat…

dàn
… (chicken) eggs

… fish

海鲜
… hǎixiān
… seafood

Time to get the travel guides out. I wonder if I’ll have time to go see everything.

There’s two vegetarian restaurants listed on Vegetarian China, you know where I’ll be going when I’m in Shanghai. If you’re a vegetarian traveling in China, there’s a restaurant guide at HappyCow for Beijing, Changchun, Fujian, Guangdong, Guilin, Hong Kong, Macau, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shanxi, Sichuan, Tibet, Xiamen, Xinjiang, and Yunnan. A blog post on WorldFoodieGuide about vegetarian food in Hong Kong and Macau. One vegetarian shared her vegetarian experience in China and how accomodating they were. Is you just want eye candy, here’s a photo gallery of places in Wuhan.
